Aleksandar Mitrovic and the rest of the forwards have little-to-no opportunity of being made Newcastle skipper, but players such as Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote, Steven Taylor and even Georginio Wijnaldum will all feel they have a tiny chance of becoming the new Magpies captain going. New centre-backs should certainly be high on Steve McClaren's shopping list though - and, with the ex-England boss' fondness for appointing defenders as skippers, then they could well be given the armband on arrival. At Derby County, Richard Keogh was McClaren's on-field general - and he very much enjoys having a centre-back as skipper. Should that be the case, then Cameroon captain Nicolas N'Koulou would be a great choice should he be recruited from Marseille this summer. Ajax centre-back Joel Veltman is another player who is reportedly interesting the Magpies and, although he has no previous leadership experience, his positioning on the field could see him elevated to the captaincy. The likelihood, however, is that McClaren will not opt for one of his new boys - but instead he will appoint from within.
