Mick McCarthy Favourite To Be Next Leeds United Manager

sacked this morning from his job at Wolves, Mick McCarthy has been made joint favourite to take over the managerial vacancy at Leeds United. Yorkshire born McCarthy, 53, served Wolves as a manager for five and a half years and got them promoted from the Championship as leaders, granting them the top flight status they still had when they fired him. It is likely this ability to guide a side into the Premier League and his local ties (he played 272 times for neighbours Barnsley) that has the former Republic of Ireland boss' name being spoken of in terms of the Leeds job, a club who are so desperate to get themselves back into England's top division that they themselves got rid of boss Simon Grayson when the side were still in touching distance of the play-offs. Sky Bet currently have McCarthy at 3/1 to become the new permanent Leeds manager though some bookies still list current caretaker boss Neal Redfearn as favourite, or have them both on the same odds. Steve Bruce comes in at third and Neil Warnock at fourth, two managers who lost their top flight jobs this season for Sunderland and QPR respectively. They are both also former managers of Sheffield United.
