12. In Fact, Gloves Were Introduced To Increase Hits To The Head & Dramatic Knockouts
The reaction of every single promoter that legalised the move... Bare knuckle boxing is a funny ol' sport. The stances the fighters take looks ridiculous and ever so slightly camp. Theatrical almost. This is because the fighters were mainly protecting their bodies. The head was not a primary target, since a worthwhile punch to the skull would probably break the punchers hand. This made for a lot of tactical fights with little in the way of hard hitting action. Even though blood and broken bones was at a premium, gloves were brought in so we could see a lot 'cleaner' (in the sense that there is less blood) yet more dramatic fights.
