Newcastle: 5 Reasons Alan Pardew Should Be Sacked After Humiliating Sunderland Defeat

2. A Regressive Season

As has already been touched upon, Newcastle enjoyed a remarkable season in 2011/12 and their fifth placed finish above the likes of Chelsea absolutely astounded many onlookers. Pardew's men put in a series of dazzling displays that season and were easy on the eye. Their 3-0 crushing of Manchester United stands out the most alongside several other brilliant performances. A spot in this season's Europa League was secured and a place in the Champions League surely not all that far away, but then, somehow, the Magpies, as though all their success was the proverbial grains of sand, let everything slip through their fingers. This season has been one of regression, of that there is no disputing. Once they were challenging for the Champions League, now they are trying to dodge the Championship, all in the space of 12 months. What a difference a year makes. Newcastle are going backwards under Pardew. He should be commended for the club's success last season but for this campaign he only deserves to be chastised. One successful season does not make a successful manager and perhaps people are beginning to realise that now.
