Newcastle 1-0 Aston Villa - Player Ratings

Newcastle United Player Ratings

Tim Krul (6) One of Newcastle's better performers this season, Krul made one save of note from Agbonlahor in the first half. Rarely troubled in the second half and will be happy with a clean sheet after shipping four against Tottenham. Mike Williamson (7) The defender has established himself as reliable first team player. Dealt well with Benteke's aerial presence and made a crucial interception when Villa were on a dangerous counter attack at 0-0. Fabricio Coloccini (6) The returning captain marshalled his troops well and was a calming presence in the Newcastle defence when the team began to get frustrated. Paul Dummett (4) Poor game for a player still learning his trade at this level. Gave the ball away too cheaply on a number of occasions and looked nervous in possession. Did have one rasping drive just over the top in the second half. Corner kick delivery not at the same level as Cabaye's. Mathieu Debuchy (6) Had a nervy first half but showed good vision in playing long balls down the flanks. Enjoyed greater success in second half with some good deliveries and forced a succession of corners. Chieck Tiote (6) Sub Gosling (88 mins) Returning from injury the Ivorian midfielder was industrious as ever. Broke the play up well in the second half but tired and was replaced late on by Dan Gosling. Managed to pick up his obligatory booking for a rash foul. Vernon Anita (6) Kept the play ticking over in centre midfield when Newcastle were looking short of ideas but still struggles with the physical presence of the League when up against bigger opponents. Yohan Gouffran (5) Quiet game for the Frenchman, didn't provide young Dummett with much cover, which resulted in the full back looking exposed down the flank. Dragged one opportunity wide early in the second half. Moussa Sissoko (4)An ever present in Newcastle's team this season, Sissoko had a poor game today. Found it difficult to gain any joy down the flanks and never really got going. May be growing fatigued with the number of minutes he has played. Papiss Cisse (2) - Sub De Jong (71 mins) Woeful miss at the end of the first half, anonymous throughout and still doesn't know the offside rule. Fans have lost their patience with a player who enjoyed such a wonderful debut season. Loic Remy (7) Scored the winner in the last minute of the game to secure the three points for Newcastle. Looked like the Magpies only chance of a goal with a string of efforts. Pardew will do well to keep a hold of him in the summer. Subs: Luuk De Jong: Scored an offside goal and struck the shot that fell kindly for Remy in the build up to Newcastle's goal. More involved with play than Cisse. Dan Gosling: N/A
