Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea: Player Ratings
Juan Mata: Linked well with Hazard when he came into the middle, but not as influential as he was in the Capital One Cup win over Arsenal. Subbed. 5.5/10 Oscar: Despite his best endeavour the Brazilian failed to make an impact on this one. Tried everything to get involved though. 6/10. Eden Hazard: Looked more interested in contributing from the left flank. Drew fouls aplenty in the first half and linked well with Mata. Dragged wide late on. As good as anyone in a Blue shirt today. 6.5/10. Fernando Torres: Fed off scraps and Newcastle defence too wise to his attempts to run in behind. Perhaps the Man City game was yet another false dawn. Subbed. 5/10. Subs: Samuel Eto'o: Got half an hour, but his lousy luck in front of goal continued with desperate defending denying him a goal on two occasions. If Chelsea strikers cannot start scoring regularly someone will be brought in. 5.5/10. Willian: Also came on for last 30 minutes and drew a save from Krul after coming on. Phil Scolari will be looked for more from Willian if he is to be a regular for Brazil in World Cup plans. 6/10 Schurrle: Only got 20 minutes and headed single chance wide. 5/10.
