Newcastle 2-1 West Brom: Player Ratings
WBA
Boaz Myhill: Poor punch for the goal, better when dealing with Remy in behind. Distribution a little dodgy though. Ben Foster will definitely regain his place when he returns based on this. 4.5/10.
Billy Jones: Did just enough to nod Remy header behind. Lucky not to concede a penalty for handball at the death. A bit like opposite number Debuchy his defending could improve. 4/10. Gareth McAuley: Ameobi gave the Northern Ireland defender a tough time. Third match running the centre backs have conceded two goals. 3.5/10. Jonas Olsson: Took a big chance when he pulled Remy's shirt edge of the box, but escaped punishment. Must tighten things up at the back. 3/10. Liam Ridgewell: Quiet showing on his return from injury. 3.5/10. Youssouf Mulumbu: Managed to frustrate Newcastle playmaker Cabaye. Booked late on and misses next match. 6/10. James Morrison: Got the nod over Claudio Yacob, but showed no compelling reason why Clarke should have broken up his usual deep-lying pair. 4.5/10. Morgan Amalfitano: Put in the cross for Brunt's goal, but otherwise the radar was off. Subbed. 5.5/10. Stephane Sessegnon: Tame effort straight at Krul under pressure from Williamson and did little else except get in the way of teammates. Former Sunderland man booed to the rafters at St James' Park. Subbed. 3/10. Chris Brunt: Curled an early free kick and brought fine stop from Krul. Smashed in an equalizer. Booked and later subbed. As good as any Albion player. 6.5/10. Shane Long: Won his fair share of headers in the air and showed strength and skill on the counter. Assist for Brunt's goal with deft flicked header. If only teammates had matched his endeavour 6/10. Subs: Saido Berahino: Given 15 minutes in place of Brunt. Rating N/A. Victor Anichebe: Given 15 minutes in place of Sessegnon. Headed wide late on. Rating N/A. Zoltan Gera: Good to see him back, but only given a brief cameo. Rating N/A. Who was your man of the match? Have your say below.
