Newcastle 2014-15 Season Review - 6 Best (And 6 Worst) NUFC Performances

1. Manchester City 0-2 Newcastle United (Capital One Cup Fourth Round - October 29th, 2014)

Prior to October 29th, 2014, Newcastle United had visited the Etihad Stadium on 11 occasions - and failed to claim even a solitary victory. But all that changed thanks to a wonderful performance from a Magpies side full of youth, hunger and flair. Manchester City were the Capital One Cup holders and Newcastle were expected to tamely roll over in the North West - but, just six minutes in, Rolando Aarons ensured that was not going to be the case by advancing purposely with the ball into the area, beating Eliaquim Mangala for pace, before placing a wonderful shot across Willy Caballero and into the far corner of the net. Although Steven Jovetic tested Rob Elliot and Fabricio Coloccini managed to divert a clearance off his own post throughout the remainder of the first-half, Newcastle looked strong and controlled midfield through Ryan Taylor, Jack Colback and Mehdi Abeid. With Aarons substituted at half-time, Gabriel Obertan continued to offer pace in attack - but it was a magnificent second from Moussa Sissoko that settled the match. The French midfielder arrived as a second-half substitute and, in the 75th minute, he picked up the ball 25 yards from goal, advanced into the box and calmly sidefooted home. Newcastle had reached the Capital One Cup quarter-finals, knocking out the holders, and the Toon Army dared to dream that this was their year - because this was a performance that was simply out of this world. Unfortunately, this was to be a one off...
