Newcastle 3-0 Wigan - 6 Things We Learnt

3. Injuries to Santon and Ba

Although some Mackems may claim that their northern neighbors continue to get the rub of the green with regards to referee€™s decisions, there can be little doubt that Newcastle United€™s luck in the physio room isn€™t quite so generous. With Cabaye and Taylor already out long-term along with Ben Arfa suffering a hamstring complaint, the sight of consistent performers Davide Santon and leading goal-scorer Demba Ba limping off would€™ve worried any Toon fan. Pardew has done his best to dampen any worries, insisting both changes were more precautionary than reactionary, but the sooner they€™re both announced fit for Monday€™s trip to Craven Cottage the better. Santon€™s assist (a swerving shot from 30 yards) showed just what the 21 year old is capable of and, unlike some full backs, he appears to have the defensive skills to match.
