Newcastle And Sunderland Look To Former Inter Milan Boss Walter Mazzarri

The North-East rivals both need head coaches - and they are targeting the Italian.

Newcastle United are searching the length and breadth of Europe as they look for a new permanent head coach - and former Inter Milan boss Walter Mazzarri is the latest name they are considering. Both the Magpies and their North-East rivals Sunderland are likely to need new head coaches this summer, and they have turned their attention to the 53-year-old Italian. According to The Chronicle, the former Inter head coach - who was replaced by ex-Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini in November - would appear to be an attractive option for both clubs due to the fact he has Champions League and Serie A experience.
In a coaching career spanning 14 years, Mazzarri has managed seven different clubs - including Sampdoria, Napoli and Inter. The former Fiorentina midfielder led Napoli to the Coppa Italia in 2011-12 and to second place in Serie A the following season and he is renowned as a technical coach who demands the most from every single on of his players. John Carver has been in interim control of the Magpies since Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace at the turn of the year, but Newcastle have won just two Premier League matches since and face a final-day clash with West Ham United in order to ensure their top-flight future.
And, with Derby County boss Steve McClaren having already turned down the opportunity to take over at Newcastle for the final three games of the season and former Lyon coach Remi Garde also reportedly losing interest, the Magpies€™ options are narrowing. With every passing day, as more and more managers rule themselves out of taking charge at St James€™ Park, then the likelihood of interim boss Carver being given the role on a permanent basis - despite having won just two out of 18 matches - continues to increase.
