Newcastle Beat QPR 2 Years Ago To Stay Up - But How Do They Rate Vs The Current Team?

6. THEN: Yohan Cabaye - NOW: Ryan Taylor

There isn't really a comparison here. Hands down Yohan Cabaye is the better player in just about every single department, even if he wasn't at his best during the 2012-13 campaign. Cabaye's goals and assists helped to keep Newcastle in the Premier League that season, even if there weren't as many as fans would have liked, while Ryan Taylor hasn't contributed a single one of either since his return from injury.
In some ways it is harsh to be so critical of a man who spent more than two years out with serious injuries, but Taylor's set-pieces have been dreadful since his return - and he has been done for pace at both full-back and in defensive-midfield. At his best, Cabaye could spread the ball from deep-lying positions and release other attacking players and, although Taylor has tried to do this, he has ultimately failed. Cabaye may have been well-below his prime form in 2012-13, but that is still far better than what Taylor is offering right now. Verdict: Definitely a point for Yohan Cabaye - 1-0. One is a France international who has won the Ligue 1 title, the other is Ryan Taylor - nothing more needs said.
