Newcastle: Ranking All Number 9’s From Premier League Era

6. Papiss Demba Cisse

What happened with Papiss? The current Newcastle no. 9 has gone from 13 goals in 14 games in his first half season with the club - where he was delivering unplayable performances and scoring near impossible goals - to a miserable return of 2 league goals last season where he found himself below every other striker in the first team. Papiss appears to have spent the Summer of 2012 at the Andrei Arshavin Academy of Excellence where he forgot how to play football. Since his explosive start the Senegalese star has seen his confidence, return rate and performance levels plummet and he has drawn the ire of the restless and expectant Geordie faithful. Had it not been for his end of season injury Papiss Demba Cisse would almost certainly have been shipped on by the club, and either way may find that he is no longer the Club€™s no. 9. The injury may be the first nail in the coffin for Papiss€™ career - or could be the break and catalyst needed to put him back on the road to redemption.
