Newcastle: Ranking All Number 9’s From Premier League Era

4. Andy Carroll

The Divisive Ponytail only played in the Premier League as Newcastle number 9 for nineteen games but his return of eleven goals is what secured him fourth place in this list. For half a year Carroll was the future of the Club and a surefire future England no. 9 - his partnership with Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton firing Newcastle to safety upon their return to the Premier League. But following his high profile signing for Liverpool, the career and perception of big Andy has waned substantially - both nationally and on Tyneside. Some will say that the young no. 9 was an important part of the club€™s rejuvenation, and whose transfer funded the building of the current team. Others will find humour in the £35million flop€™s time spent at Liverpool and on the West Ham United treatment table. What is for sure is that Andy Carroll€™s short spell as Newcastle no. 9 was prolific and prosperous for the club.
