Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Back Out Of Bafetimbi Gomis Deal?

Team Talk. The Magpies have been locked in talks with the Ligue 1 club over the 27-year-old and had hoped to have completed the deal by now. However, the North East outfit have been frustrated in their negotiations and have now set their sights on alternative targets this summer, and it looks at this stage as though their interest in Gomis is over. And the same can also be said of Aston Villa's Darren Bent, with Newcastle also cooling their interest in the former England international as well. Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that there are no offers left on the table for Gomis, indicating that the Magpies have indeed retracted their interest. He told Lyon's website: "We have to be humble, I'm ready to make myself available to discuss the situation with Bafetimbi. I think we both need to swallow our pride, myself being the first.

"But there are no offers currently on the table. "Bafetimbi needs to play football. I believe it would be a mistake to stay entrenched in our current positions. We have to work with his agent to find an amicable resolution that will see him happy to stay at Lyon."
Aulas also delivered another blow to Newcastle fans who have so far been frustrated during the current window by revealing another Magpie's target, Yoann Gourcuff, is set to stay at the club. Reports claimed that Lyon were ready to loan him out but Aulas continued:
"Yoann is part of Lyon team that will surprise a lot of people. L'OL has never thought about loaning Yoann Gourcuff paying half of his wages. It is amazing to hear such things."
Meanwhile, another former Newcastle target, Aston Villa forward Darren Bent, is edging closer toward a move to Crystal Palace.
