Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Target Manchester United's James Wilson

The Magpies are looking to snap up the 19-year-old striker their summer.

Newcastle United will attempt to hold off competition and push through a deal to sign Manchester United's exciting young forward James Wilson this summer. Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are among the other Premier League clubs interested in the 19-year-old, who could be available on loan or for a nominal fee. Wilson's contract is reported to expire in June and, although Man United have offered him a new and improved long-term deal, he is yet to put pen to paper - meaning he could in theory be signed by a rival club, who would only have to pay a modest compensation fee due to the fact the striker is less than 24.
However, with the two-cap England Under-20 international expected to agree to a new contract in the coming weeks, The Metro claim Newcastle are looking to sign Wilson on a season-long loan deal. That would depend on the Magpies retaining their Premier League status on the last of the season, of course, but should they do so then Wilson will be one of the primary transfer targets. The fact that Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is contemplating letting Wilson leave, possibly permanently, may surprise many considering the youngster shot on to the scene with two goals during his debut first-team appearance for Man United against Hull City last May.
He has often been preferred by Van Gaal to loan signing Radamel Falcao this season, and Wilson has now scored a total of four goals in 17 first-team appearances (the majority of which have been off the bench). Wilson is renowned for his pace and his eye for goal, so he would add something to the Newcastle forward line that has been severely lacking this season.
