Newcastle Transfer News: Yoan Gouffran, Mehdi Abeid And Gabriel Obertan "Transfer-Listed"

NUFC fans want signings - but it appears players may depart first...

Newcastle United have been linked with a whole host of incomings this summer but three of their French-speaking contingent appear to be on their way out of the club after reportedly being placed on the transfer list. Yoan Gouffran, Mehdi Abeid and Gabriel Obertan have been deemed surplus to requirement at the Magpies and have been put up for sale, according to The Sun. While centre-back Mike Williamson and goalkeeper Rob Elliot are also believed to be available at the right price, it appears as if the three French-speaking players are those most likely to depart St James' Park in the coming weeks.
Former Lens youngster Abeid has already been linked with a return to Greek side Panathinaikos, with who he won the Greek Cup while on loan in 2014, and the midfielder will be allowed to leave due to the fact club coaches are unconvinced by his ability to hold on to possession. Forward Gouffran and winger Obertan meanwhile have both struggled for game-time and form in recent seasons, with the former one of the chief sources of fans' frustrations last season.
Incoming head coach Steve McClaren, who is expected to be named as Alan Pardew's permanent successor within a week, will be given time to assess his squad before any final decisions are made on the players who will be allowed to leave and which areas need strengthening. But chief scout Graham Carr has already been identifying potential transfer targets, with those five players listed expected to depart and replacements brought in for them.
