Newcastle Transfer Round-Up: Every Player Linked From July 6th-12th
7. Adam Armstrong
Adam Armstrong will be sent out on a six-month loan deal this season - if Newcastle United manage to recruit at least one senior striker. The Chronicle claim that Armstrong will be allowed to move to a Football League side until the turn of the year if the Magpies' summer recruitment drive goes to plan. Championship and League One clubs have enquired about the 18-year-old's availability, with Newcastle keen to see how Armstrong progresses once he is given a consistent starting run at senior level. Sammy Ameobi has already been allowed to leave for Cardiff City on a season-long loan after signing a new two-year deal, and Armstrong could well follow him out the door. Former interim head coach John Carver declared last season that Armstrong was "not ready" for the Premier League and, in an ideal world, would have been sent out on loan in January rather than try and help the Magpies stay in the Premier League. Reserve-team boss Peter Beardsley is keen to see Armstrong tested in the lower leagues, and Steve McClaren will sanction a temporary deal for the forward if he gets the recruits he wants. Newcastle's primary striking target is Queens Park Rangers' Charlie Austin, although that deal is becoming complicated by his previous medical history, but they also retain an interest in Wolfsburg's Bas Dost and Anderlecht's Aleksandar Mitrovic. West Denton-born Armstrong, meanwhile, has made 19 first-team appearances for Newcastle to date but is yet to find the back of the net. The forward has been prolific in both the reserves and for England Under-18s, however - netting nine times in as many games for the Young Lions.
