Former Newcastle United forward Adam Campbell has signed for Notts County following his release from the Magpies at the end of last season. The 20-year-old North Shields-born striker has signed a two-year deal with the League Two side, along with Dutch winger Genaro Snijders and ex-Crystal Palace attacking-midfielder Kyle de Silva Interestingly, Notts County managed to secure Campbell's signature despite the forward having played in an Under-21 friendly match for West Bromwich Albion in April. It seems Tony Pulis decided against the option of signing up Campbell to a deal. Campbell, who scored an impressive four goals in five appearances while on loan at Gateshead last campaign, played a trial match for the Baggies as he ran out for their 3-0 victory over Arsenal U-21s. The 20-year-old provided an assist for strike partner Adil Nabi and seemed to play a decent role for West Brom as he stayed on the field for 60 minutes - heightening speculation that he could make a permanent move to the Midlands, although that never materialised. When Campbell first broke into the Newcastle first-team as a 17-year-old against Atromitos in the Europa League back in August 2012, big things were expected of the North Shields-born forward but it has never quite worked out for him. Following five appearances during his first season, Campbell was then loaned out to Carlisle United, St Mirren, Fleetwood Town, Hartlepool United and latterly Gateshead - and he has only really just started to discover some goal-scoring form. Six goals in 29 appearances throughout his career is an average return and Campbell will hope he fares better once he starts playing regular first-team football at League Two level.
