Newcastle Transfers: 10 Defenders Pardew Must Consider In January

2. Kurt Zouma

Club: Chelsea Unfortunately for Zouma, Chelsea have a habit of signing top European talents and letting them rot on the bench. They have too many available established first teamers and pushing out the likes of Gary Cahill, John Terry and Branislav IvanoviĀ‡ was never going to be easy. So far, Zouma has made just one Premier League appearance for Chelsea, as a substitute against Man Utd, and while he's played in the League Cup and the Champions League, his chances are likely to remain limited. He isn't going to be classed as anything beyond a back-up, and it might be better for him to head out on loan for the second half of the season to make sure his progression doesn't falter. Because the summer will see changes to the Newcastle defence, a shorter term solution to bolstering the squad might be better than investing heavily in January when price tags tend to be higher.
