Newcastle Transfers: 10 French Bargains Pardew Should Target In January
9. Darío Cvitanich
Club: Nice Though his CV reads like something of a journeyman, Cvitanich has found his scoring boots at Nice, hitting 38 goals in 61 games, and has already drawn the attentions of Steve Bruce and Hull. At 30, he'd be an old option compared to the rest of the squad, but his experience and his form over the last two years suggests that he could still do a job for Newcastle in the absence of Papiss Cisse. Presumably Paul Merson is already having nightmares about the need to pronounce his name on Soccer Saturday. Likelihood It depends on who you think is most in charge of January's transfer requirements. If Darren Bent was a serious option under Derek Llambias (and it seems he was, with the club actively in talks with Villa over a move), that would suggest signing older, experienced strikers might not be off the menu. And Pardew definitely wants experience, as he's already said, and with Cisse going to Africa in January, a deal pushed through for the Nice man might make a lot of sense. He probably wouldn't break the bank either.
