Newcastle Transfers: 10 Major Deals That Will Happen This Summer

9. Shola Ameobi

The Nigerian Geordie will say goodbye to the club this summer after 17 years - the fans who vocally oppose the lanky striker getting their wish as his contract comes to an end. Time has simply caught up to Shola who has always provided more off the pitch than on it. At age 32 he still has years left likely at a lower level but make no mistake that a club which lacks leaders is about to lose its steadiest locker room presence. When the dust settles hopefully Shola Ameobi will be remembered as a professional, and as the affectionately and playfully titled 'Mackem Slayer'. The Newcastle fans are passionate and that sometimes clouds their expectations - particularly when it comes to strikers. But there is no denying that Shola often fell short of what was needed - strikers have to score goals and Shola's return isn't Premier League quality. His contract's up and won't be renewed, but hopefully one day the Geordie Good Guy can return to the club and help guide the next generation of players.
