Newcastle Transfers: 10 Major Deals That Will Happen This Summer

8. Bafetimbi Gomis

Another long term target who is also based out of Ligue 1 - Bafetimbi Gomis has been in the thoughts of Newcastle management for years. Price has often been a stumbling block, but with the player out of contract and on his way from Lyon; the time is finally right for Baby Drogba to arrive on Tyneside. Gomis fits the requirements both physically and financially for the Ashley/Pardew/Carr regime. Ashley has only spent money on strikers Papiss Cisse and Xisco since arriving and at 28 years old Gomis represents a strong investment on a free transfer. Additionally he will offer a replacement for Shola Ameobi as a target man up front. Gomis has a decent goalscoring record, and being available on a free will prove too good to refuse for a team that have been incapable of both scoring goals and retaining strikers. If as expected Loic Remy departs, Luuk de Jong is not retained and Shola leaves then the club will have only Papiss Cisse as a senior striker. Expected the club to act quick to help plug the gap.
