Newcastle Transfers: 10 Players From The World Cup To Sign
7. Ivan Perisic - Croatia
There was a lot missing from Newcastle's play last season, particularly after the exit of Yohan Cabaye, but a constant source of frustration under Alan Pardew is the lack of an orthodox winger with pace to stretch the play. Oddly, Pardew currently employs a system with wide men, but rather than use it to it's full effect, he plays second striker Yoan Gouffran and central midfielder Moussa Sissoko out there. To be fair to the mannager, his only other option is Gabriel Obertan. 25 year old Croatia winger Ivan Perisic would change all that. The 6 foot 2 Croat Wolfsburg man would add another dimension to the team and come in very handy across the season. Evidence of his talent is his tormenting of Marcelo in the opening game of the tournament in Sao Paulo. Perisic switched Bundesliga allegiances last year, having made almost 50 appearances for Borussia Dortmund during a two year spell at the Signal Iduna Park, the 25-year-old moved to big spending Wolfsburg where he was a regular last season, helping them to a 5th placed finish. If his good form continues during the tournament, the chances of seeing Ivan Perisic on Tyneside, even if he was a target fror the club, would gradually become more remote as the more wealthy, or more flexible with spending, clubs would likely begin to look at him. Even so, his style of play, height and dynamic pace make him ideally suited to the Premier League and with him on board, Newcastle could look to really push on this season.
