Newcastle Transfers: 10 Players From The World Cup To Sign

6. Aurelien Chedjou - Cameroon

Another previous target who impressed during time in France, Galatasaray's Aurelien Chedjou (above, right) plays at the heart of the Cameroon defence and has done since 2009. Much to many Newcastle fans' frustrations, the club are reported to be looking to offload French defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa after only 18 months. It's true that his career on Tyneside hasn't been smooth, but he has shown glimpses of the talent that made Mike Ashley fork out £7million for him in January 2013, while Fabricio Coloccini suffered similar issues when he first arrived in English football, and everyone knows that story. However, if he is to go, then Chedjou would be an ideal replacement. Much like Yanga-Mbiwa did in 2012 with Montpelier, the soon to be 28-year-old Cameroonian won Ligue 1 a year earlier with former club Lille, creating the bedrock of success that also saw them lift the French Cup alongside Mathieu Debuchy. Given Chedjou's role at Gala, with whom he faced Chelsea last season in UEFA Champions League and finished runners up to Fenerbahce under recently departed former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, it may be tough to get the player who the club was rumoured to have been looking at during his time at Lille. It is likely that the fee he would command would be a little more than Newcastle would ideally like to pay, with his pace and ability to read the game, Chedjou would be a fantastic asset to Newcastle United.
