If Newcastle's new owners wanted to make a real statement of intent from the off than perhaps picking up Leipzig's coveted young centre-back would be the perfect way to do so.
Upamecano is a man very much in demand at the moment. A big, powerful defender who has been making a real name for himself in Germany, Dayot Upamecano has been linked with a whole host of clubs over the last few years and that excitement has reached fever-pitch with his most impressive season to date.
Leipzig were challenging at the top of the league when this untimely postponement came along and a huge part of that was the performances of their French centre-back. The 21 year old is really fulfilling the early promise that surrounded him and has become one of the stand-out talents in the Bundesliga.
Strong, athletic and a natural leader- Upamecano would probably slot into any team in the Premier League and if Newcastle could pry him away from the clubs currently circling it would make people really stand up and take notice.
