This must be one of the worst transfers in Premier League history; it really does defy logic as to how the management of the time thought that the calamitous Frenchman would sure up Newcastle€™s notorious dodgy defence. Arriving from Rangers for a ridiculous £8 million in the January of 2005, after signing for the Scottish outfit on a free the previous summer, it€™s no wonder the transfer was under investigation by the Stevens inquiry in June 2007. Although eventually cleared of any wrongful behaviour, the transfer seems like an absolute brain-explosion on the part of Graeme Souness, and his largely disappointing time on Tyneside was ended in the summer of 2006, when he was transferred to newly-relegated Serie-B outfit Juventus for a fee of £3.3 million.
