Newcastle Transfers: 5 Cheaper Alternatives To Loic Remy

1. Luuk de Jong

Luuk de Jong is thought to be top of Alan Pardew's shopping list this month. The Borussia Monchengladbach striker is believed to be a high priority for the Magpies, with owner Mike Ashley set to sanction a move in the coming weeks. de Jong set Europe alight in the 2011-12 campaign, scoring a scorching 25 Eredivisie goals in 32 appearances in his final season for FC Twente, before moving on to Monchengladbach. However, his stay in Germany has not been a success, and Newcastle are believed to be confident they can tempt him to the Premier League this month. Monchengladbach put down £12 million for his services two years ago, but director Hans Meyer revealed that, with the player falling down the pecking order in the side, he may be available for loan. A permanent deal could also be on the cards, and the German side are unlikely to ask for too much for a player who has since been deemed surplus to requirements. Do you think Newcastle should pay the full £16 million for Loic Remy or take a cheaper option? Let us know in the comment section, below.
