Newcastle Transfers: 5 Loic Remy Striker Alternatives Should Be Looking At

4. Jermain Defoe

Newcastle are also believed to be keeping a watchful eye on the situation surrounding Jermain Defoe at Tottenham, according to reports. Defoe has found himself marginalised at White Hart Lane since the arrival of Roberto Soldado from Valencia, making just seven Premier League appearances, six of which coming from the substitutes' bench. The England international is yet to score a league goal this season and, with next summer's World Cup looming on the horizon, knows he needs regular football to keep alive his chances of going to Brazil. Defoe has had to settle for League Cup and Europa League action this term but has impressed when given a rare opportunity to do so, having scored six Europa goals from four appearances this season. And it is form like that which could persuade Newcastle to enter the bidding war for the 31-year-old, who is also wanted by Queens Park Rangers.
