3. James McCarthy
Wigans James McCarthy watched on as his club crashed out of the Premier League at the end of last season and he will likely be looking for a way back to England's top division. At just 22-years-old, McCarthy could potentially be a perfectly cheap alternative to replace Cabaye. Whilst straight away McCarthy wouldnt be as vocal or physically dominate as Cabaye, but in time he could well be a strong member of he Toons midfield, exercising leadership and creating chances. McCarthy appeared in
every single one of Wigan's league game last season proving his worth to the team. At such a young age McCarthy still has time to adapt his play and becoming an overall better footballer and with his transfer fee likely to be low, Newcastle could have a bargain on there hands. McCarthy has shown that he can battle with the best in the Premier League and is fully prepared to take on the challenge of playing for a club of Newcastle's stature.
