Luke Edwards of the Telegraph - famously ousted from his media seat at the club some time ago, so perhaps a questionably "unbiased" source - has long suggested that Micah Richards is firmly on Newcastle's most wanted list, and speculation recently has seemingly followed suit. Also a target for Sunderland at one point during the summer, Richards would be an affordable option in terms of a fee, since City clearly do not want him, but his contract requirements would likely reflect his current club's wealth. But if United are willing to meet the wage demands that apparently put off Sunderland, they will get a quick, powerful player whose experience in the Premier League might well make him a better option than some of the alternatives. And Newcastle have needed defensive reinforcements since before the start of the summer.
