Newcastle Transfers: 9 Forwards Pardew Must Consider In January

3. Rickie Lambert (Southampton)

The Englishman already has 6 goals to his name so far this season, and if rumours linking him with a move to West Ham are to be believed (via Mail Online) he could be available for around £8m, which is a considerable sum for a 31 year old. That suggested amount will probably be too much for Newcastle, given Lambert's age, but should there be room for negotiation, the England international would be a good option to add a different dimension to the Magpies' attacking options. He is strong, surprisingly quick, and knows how to find the net, which is key, given Newcastle's continued lack of an out and out striker, even when playing with Loic Remy at the front of the attack. Sooner or later, Southampton are going to have to choose between conceding that signing Dani Osvaldo was a mistake at the price he demanded, and play Lambert more, or give the Italian more time on the pitch, and that could mean the £8m suggested by the Mail might be a little on the high side.
