Newcastle Transfers: Lascelles And Darlow Deals Set For Completion Today

Nottm Forest duo set for medicals, and WILL be loaned back.

Newcastle fans could hardly have hoped to see their team invest in a couple of new players ahead of the new season, let alone the seven signings they've already made - including this weekend's confirmation of Facundo Ferryra's loan from Shakhtar Donetsk - and it looks like Alan Pardew is not yet finished in the market. Having already confirmed that the club are still looking at bringing in a first choice striker - despite the impressive pre-season form of Emmanuel Riviere, and the acquisitions of the Frenchman, Ayoze Perez and now Ferreyra - but it looks like the manager has cast his eye backwards to building a stronger foundation for the future with the impending capture of two English prospects from Nottm Forest. The news has just broken that - as expected - Newcastle are on the verge of signing both Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow from Stuart Pearce's side. Lascelle had been the subject of interest from Tottenham recently, as well as having attracted the unlawful attentions of Everton back in 2010 (for which the Toffees were fined), and would bolster Newcastle's defence as one of the most highly-rated centre-halves the country has produced recently, and Darlow will eventually become further back-up to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot in goal. But neither will be available straight away, as according to Sky Sports' Graeme Bailey, the players would head immediately back to Forest on loan for the season after completing their moves. https://twitter.com/GraemeBailey/status/496200144770326528 This summer has already looked impressive in transfer business terms, and yesterday's friendly win over Schalke offered cause for confidence - at least a lot more than the first half implosion against a very impressive Malaga side the day before - and adding two English prospects would no doubt hit the right notes for some Newcastle fans.
