All is not well at Celtic. Having trailed 4-1 from the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Legia Warsaw, the Scottish champions were unceremoniously dumped out of the competition with a 2-0 loss in the second leg at home. The club will now no doubt face questions: not least aimed at new boss Ronny Deila who will now face a battle to keep hold of their star players - and particularly Virgil Van Dijk and former Newcastle 'keeper Fraser Forster. The news before the second leg defeat was that Van Dijk had attracted renewed interest from Newcastle, who conspicuously left their number 5 shirt unallocated when the squad list was announced today and if true the cub should definitely follow through. Celtic are now without their major pulling power for more talented players, and though Van Dijk has been asked to stay another year, an offer close to the £8-10m valuation of the player could be enough to see him signed up. Now that Celtic are out of the Champions League, more suitors are likely to show their hands for Van Dijk who has impressed in Scotland since his £2.6m move just a year ago. He has already attracted interest from Manchester United in the past, and his precarious position at Celtic might well encourage others to follow suit. So the key here would be for Lee Charnley to move quickly to get his man, who would represent a far more valuable target than the likes of Micah Richards who has also been linked to the Magpies recently.
