There wasn't much - if anything - wrong with Wijnaldum's performance, except the fact he couldn't convert either of the two decent opportunities he had. Displaying the touches of class that convinced Newcastle to part with the huge sum they did for the former PSV Eindhoven captain, Wijnaldum almost netted an outrageous flick after he met a Papiss Cisse goal-bound header just eight yards out, only for it to be saved by Yann Sommer. Guilty of drifting in and out of the game against Borussia, Wijnaldum is still getting used to his teammates and the pace of English football, but he has showed glimpses that suggest he could be a cracking acquisition.
