Newcastle United 0-1 Borussia Mönchengladbach - Player Ratings

11. Papiss Cisse - 5 (Replaced By Aleksandar Mitrovic After 62 Minutes)

The last few pre-season matches in which he has featured, Cisse has been largely anonymous - and that was again the case against Borussia. Aside from a header that he nodded wide just before half-time and a couple of occasions when he linked up well during a couple of attacks, Cisse just could not get into the game. The fact the match lacked pace meant Cisse was unable to really ghost into space or run in behind the Borussia defence, and it was no surprise to see him substituted after 62 minutes.

Aleksandar Mitrovic - 6.5

It was somewhat of a strange home debut for Aleksandar Mitrovic. He received the two loudest cheers of the day - for warming up during the first-half and then when he replaced Cisse in the 62nd minute - but he also missed an absolute sitter. The Serbian's cameo also proved another thing - that Mitrovic will put himself about in the Premier League. Constantly buzzing around and looking for the ball, Mitrovic jumped and ran for everything. As well as failing to connect properly with a couple of headers, Mitrovic smashed an effort off the far post from just eight yards out when it seemed easier to score after Siem de Jong teed him up perfectly with just minutes to go. Come Sunday against Southampton, if Mitrovic gets an opportunity like that then he must bury it.
