Newcastle United: 5 Reasons Ayoze Perez Is The Ultimate Hipster Striker

4. He Plays Alone

The most hipster of all forwards are used to playing alone. An alternative choice to the standard 4-4-2 formation these modern players are more direct, more aware, and of course stronger in character than those that rely on a partner. Ice cold in front of goal and with a demeanour that remains the epitome of collection, Ayoze settles into this role perfectly whilst ensuring his seclusion does not determine a lesser style of play. Even with the fan-base complaining at the start of the season that using a lone striker meant unhelpful isolation, Ayoze - who played more as a wideman last year for Tenerife and won most accolades as an attacking midfielder - has flourished on his own in the absence of Papiss Cisse. Even against so-called "bigger" teams like Chelsea and Liverpool Perez has enjoyed good form on his own, and his versatility is such that when Newcastle want to change system there's no need to actually substitute him.
