Newcastle United Transfers: Every Graham Carr Signing Ranked Worst To Best
16. James Perch
Signed From: Nottingham Forest
Remembered by Newcastle fans far more fondly than anything he did on the pitch really warranted, James Perch was a versatile, committed player who filled several holes when called upon. He was industrious, efficient and inexpensive, and somewhat illogically earned himself the nickname Perchinho thanks to some good performances.
In reality, he was a fairly middling player, whose cult appeal was very much tied to his limited style, and while he rarely put a foot wrong, he also rarely did anything of great substance.
15. Rob Elliot
Signed From: Charlton
Though there's no denying that Rob Elliot has had his moments in a Newcastle shirt or that he wasn't a bargain, he should never have been anything more than an understudy at St James Park and the fact that he played so much said more about his competition than him.
Blessed with excellent distribution, his time at Newcastle has been broken up by major injuries and it seems likely he'll drop down the pecking order if Rafa gets his own way to bring in another 'keeper.
14. Mathieu Debuchy
Signed From: Lille
Signed five months after Newcastle initially tried to bring him in, Lille's league winning full-back proved to be a high-octane combative addition to the Magpies' back-line and a definite high-point throughout 2013.
His time at Newcastle proved to be limited before a move to Arsenal, and some will remember it most for his bromance with Yohan Cabaye, but he proved to be a steal and provided the Toon with a healthy chunk of profit when he moved on in 2014. Sadly for him, it didn't work out and he probably would have done well to stay where he was.
