Newcastle United Transfers: Every Graham Carr Signing Ranked Worst To Best
19. Chancel Mbemba
Signed From: Anderlecht
Despite looking head and shoulders better than most of the defenders who conspired to get Newcastle relegated in 2016, Chancel Mbemba seemed to be heading the way of Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. Was he simply too good for Newcastle to understand?
Hopefully, he'll get a chance to prove that he's very much a Premier League option (playing more physical, dirtier Championship strikers did not suit him), because he still looks a prospect.
18. Yoan Gouffran
Signed From: Bordeaux
Signed initially as an attacker, Yoan Gouffran's biggest problem at Newcastle has been his versatility. Alan Pardew tinkered with him way too much and took the few goals that used to be in his game out, to be replaced with industry along. He's still a useful squad player (as suggested by Rafa signing him up again), but it's unlikely he's going to be a major fixture in the first team.
Still, he's been at the heart of some truly memorable Newcastle moments in an otherwise uninspiring period, so there's definitely something to be said for him.
17. Daryl Janmaat
Signed From: Feyenoord
Appreciated almost immediately for his fiery temperament and full-blooded tackles, Daryl Janmaat proved to be a solid if slightly unspectacular replacement for Mathieu Debuchy and sadly didn't endear himself to the fans towards the end of his time in black and white.
He definitely had it in him to be a long-time Premier League player, but thanks to relegation, that opportunity came to him in Watford rather than on Tyneside.
