Newcastle United Transfers: Every Graham Carr Signing Ranked Worst To Best
28. Gabriel Obertan
Signed From: Manchester United
Gabriel Obertan will not be remembered fondly by many Newcastle fans, but there's no denying that he had some value to Newcastle's deep-lying countering football under Alan Pardew. At least he was fast anyway.
Blighted by injuries, the Frenchman scored a couple of goals for United (which is more than he managed at Man Utd) and he's mostly remembered for a patchy record in terms of commitment and a single, great wing performance against Stoke.
27. Florian Thauvin
Signed From: Marseille
Apparently signed to replace Remy Cabella, the similarly lightweight Frenchman looked more than capable of a trick, but he never looked like a player worth £15million.
He played only 13 times for the Magpies, with accusations of unsuitability to the Premier League ringing loud, before being sent back on loan to Marseille. Almost inevitably, he's since gone on to be one of the best players in Ligue 1. So it just goes to show the logic might not have been all that bad.
26. Massadio Haidara
Signed From: Nancy
Though he almost immediately became something of a hero to Newcastle fans when Callum McManaman tried to snap him in half, Massadio Haidara has never been able to deliver on his athletic promise in the first team. Thanks in part to a poor injury record and the implausible popularity of Paul Dummett, the Frenchman has seen opportunities badly limited.
It seems likely he'll head to pastures new, and it's fair to say we won't have seen the best of him when that time comes.
