Newcastle United - WhatCulture End-Of-Season Awards

2. "Best" Goal Of The Season Award

Chris' Winner: Yoan Gouffran (vs Southampton at home, January 17th). This goal was hilarious. Gouffran couldn't hit a barn door up until this point in the campaign - and it took a woeful piece of defending from Southampton's Florin Gardos to change that. When Gardos slid in front of the on-rushing Fraser Forster, he scooped the ball up and it hit off Gouffran and looped into the net. The Frenchman's first goal in 13 months was extremely lucky - and also hilarious. Ross' Winner: Jonas Gutierrez (vs West Ham United at home, May 24th). I haven't actually gone for a funny one here - I've got for an emotional one. Gutierrez's deflected shot with just two minutes left against West Ham ensured the Magpies would remain in the Premier League - and allowed the Argentine to sign off in style. A fairytale ending for a player who had just returned from cancer, Gutierrez has gone down in Geordie folklore - and he will be forever missed on Tyneside.
