Newcastle Want To "Attack, Score Goals And Rise Up" The Premier League

Newcastle United's coaches are in the process of implementing a "philosophy" that will see the Magpies "attack", "score goals" and "rise to the next level" in the Barclays Premier League this season, claims Paul Simpson. The Magpies assistant head coach insists Steve McClaren and his backroom staff will not look to play "pretty, pretty, tappy-tappy football", but will instead aim to "get bodies in the box and score goals". There has already been an obvious shift in playing style from the Alan Pardew and John Carver days into the McClaren, Simpson and Ian Cathro era - and Simpson insists the changes are still a work in progress.

Quoted in the Sunderland Echo, Simpson said:

"We€™ve got some very, very talented players (at Newcastle) - the philosophy will be to play football. "We don€™t want to take stupid risks, but if it€™s on to play, we want to play. "We also want to attack, and when we get in that final third, we don€™t want to be pretty, pretty, tappy-tappy football. We need to get balls in the box, get bodies in the box and score goals. "We prided ourselves on the work we did at Derby County when we were very high scorers in the division in both seasons."

Newcastle have targeted a top-eight finish in the Premier League and a successful cup run this season. And Simpson knows they need to score a greater number of goals in order to be able to reach those ambitious goals. He added:

"We€™ve got to try to rise to that challenge at this next level in the Premier League, which is going to be tough. "But we€™ve got to be in a position where we can get enough goals to achieve what we want to do this season."
