Newcastle Youngster To Sign "Long-Term Loan" At League One Side

Adam Armstrong is looking to gain valuable first-team experience this season.

Newcastle United forward Adam Armstrong is close to signing a "long-term loan deal" with Coventry City. The 18-year-old is set to make his Sky Blues debut as soon as Tuesday evening once all of the paperwork has been processed, according to the Coventry Telegraph. His debut looks set to be in a pre-season friendly match against Cambridge United, as the League One outfit continue their preparations ahead of the new campaign, with The Chronicle claiming Armstrong will move to the Ricoh Arena for six months.

Earlier this month, The Chronicle claimed that Armstrong would be allowed to move to a Football League side until at least the turn of the year, and that now appears to be coming to fruition. That report also claimed that several Championship and League One clubs had enquired about the 18-year-old€™s availability, with Newcastle keen to see how Armstrong progresses once he is given a consistent starting run at senior level - and it appears Coventry have won the race for his signature. Sammy Ameobi has already been allowed to leave for Cardiff City on a season-long loan after signing a new two-year deal, and Armstrong looks set to follow the winger away from Tyneside on a temporary basis. Former interim head coach John Carver declared last season that Armstrong was €œnot ready€ for the Premier League and, in an ideal world, would have been sent out on loan in January. West Denton-born Armstrong has made 19 first-team appearances for Newcastle to date but is yet to find the back of the net. The forward has been prolific in both the reserves and for England Under-18s, however - netting nine times in as many games for the Young Lions.
