Newcastle's Next Opponents: Everything You Need To Know About Swansea

Wingers - Jefferson Montero And Andre Ayew

Branislav Ivanovic is one of the best defenders in the Premier League full stop, never mind right-backs, and yet at Stamford Bridge last Saturday he was given a torrid time by Montero. With pace and trickery, he had the Serb on his heels and was considered by many to be man of the match. Add in new boy Andre Ayew's goal with a composed finish from inside the penalty area and it's clear that, if Newcastle are to get something out of the game, stopping these two is going to be just as important as marshaling Bafetimbi Gomis. Montero was playing in Mexico until Monk brought the 25-year-old to the south coast of Wales last summer. A player of great flair, Montero has lightning speed and is a fantastic technician with a football. It was a good World Cup that gained him his move back to Europe after a patchy spell at Villarreal and it's clear that he has settled into the English game nicely. With a full season under his belt, he has shown that he can do it in a more physical league and Daryl Janmaat is going to have a real challenge to keep Montero in check. On the other hand Andre Ayew is one of a pair of Ghanaian brothers who have recently entered the Premier League, with his brother Jordan playing for Aston Villa. It was a slight surprise when the 25-year-old ended up in Wales but he should fit in well with Monk's side. The club, still short of firepower since the departure of Wilfried Bony in January, have gotten themselves a winger who likes to cut inside, dribble with the ball and take defenders on but who is actually decent in the air too. Massadio Haidara is not the most defensively-minded of full-backs but he must keep a close eye on Ayew or risk being torn apart. The pace and skill of these two will cause problems if they are left one-on-one with Newcastle's full-backs, who realistically are better going forward than defensively. It is imperative that they get support from the midfield, if the duo look to cut inside, and from the wingers, if they look to go down the byline. Montero and Ayew are two players who love to attack but it's unclear how willing they are to track back - so if Newcastle can get Janmaat and Haidara going forward, it might move them back but if so, cover must come from the midfield to prevent counter attacks catching them out.
