Newcastle's Next Opponents: Everything You Need To Know About Swansea
No 10 - Gylfi Sigurdsson
While Jefferson Montero and Andre Ayew have caught the headlines for their performances against Chelsea, it is Sigurdsson who really keeps this Swansea side moving forward. The creativity and vision of the Icelandic international are matched with an ability to find teammates seemingly at will and his movement will keep Fabricio Coloccini and Chancel Mbemba on their toes. Currently in his second spell at Swansea after an unsuccessful stint at Tottenham Hotspur, Sigurdsson hit top form again last year while showing the north London club everything that they have done wrong with him. By playing him on the left Spurs have nullified his influence as the 25-year-old is not the quickest across the field. However, by Swansea playing him behind the front man, he can use his passes to bring teammates like Ayew and Montero into the game, and he provide Bafetimbi Gomis with ammo or use his excellent long-range shooting to test the keeper. If Newcastle want to slow Sigurdsson down, they have to get a man close to him and limit his options when it comes to playing the ball, with both the central-defenders and midfielders working in tandem to keep track of him. If he is allowed time and space, he will dissect the defence, it's as simple as that.

University of Edinburgh graduate with a love of sport, in particular Newcastle United surprisingly enough. When I'm not shaking my head at Paul Dummett and Yoan Gouffran, I'm usually reading something or watching films of varying quality.
