Newcastle's Plight In Numbers - What Exactly Would Relegation Mean?

9. £78.3 Million - Current Wage Bill At Newcastle, Something That Would Need To Be Slashed Following Relegation

Newcastle's wage bill for the 2013-14 season was the seventh-highest in the entire Premier League - and it came in at an eye-watering £78.3 million for the year. Although a few big earners - including Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa - have now left, Daryl Janmaat and Siem de Jong have been recruited on substantial contracts. Yes some players on big money like Moussa Sissoko and Janmaat would likely leave this summer following relegation, but not all of them - and that would mean the Magpies would be paying Premier League wages in the Championship, just as they did for Fabricio Coloccini (£70,000 a week) and Alan Smith (£60,000 a week) in 2009-10.
