Newcastle's Premier League Run-In - Every Eventuality For Magpies, Sunderland And Hull

6. Newcastle Draw, Hull Win And Sunderland Lose Both Their Games (By A Combined Five Goals Or More) - Magpies And Tigers Survive (On Goal Difference) But Black Cats Are Relegated

Newcastle United draw with West Ham United Hull City beat Manchester United Sunderland lose at both Arsenal and Chelsea (by a combined five goals or more difference) Outcome: Newcastle survive (on goal difference), Hull also stay up, Sunderland are relegated This is where the abacus comes out because the mathematics begins to get fairly complex. Although a draw for Newcastle may not be good enough if Hull City conquer Manchester United, it could turn the final relegation spot into a straight goal-difference shootout between the North-East rivals - with all three sides finishing on 37 points. Sunderland's goal difference is currently -20, while Newcastle's is -25, but the Black Cats have to travel to both the Emirates and Stamford Bridge - meaning it is not totally out of the question that they could lose by more than five goals across the two matches. More than five would make the Black Cats' goal difference worse than the Magpies, while if they lose by a combined value of exactly five then Sunderland will go down because they have scored less this season (unless of course they manage to net eight or more goals but still lose by more than a five-goal difference, if that makes any sense at all). If that happens, then it will be Sunderland who drop out of the Premier League in 2014-15 on goal difference, while Newcastle will survive - the opposite of what happened in 2008-09 (although that season the Black Cats had two more points than the Magpies).
