Next Man Utd Manager: 4 Candidates To Replace Sir Alex Ferguson

4. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently plying his managerial trade back in his native Norway at Molde FK. The former United striker is doing exceptionally well with Molde and lifted the domestic title, the Tippeliga, in his first year as manager. Previously to managing Molde FK, Solskjaer was Manchester United Reserve team manager where Alex Ferguson would have got to see his managerial skills first hand. Solskjaer is a cult figure at Manchester United, ever since his dramatic injury time winner in the 1999 Champions League Final and would be welcomed back to Old Trafford. As part of the best striking quartet in Europe along with Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke and Teddy Sheringham, Solskjaer will always have a place in the heart of every United fan. This summer, Solskjaer was linked with the vacant Aston Villa job, but decided to honour his contract with Molde FK. Of course, the difference in standard of the Norweigan Tippeliga to the Barclays Premier League is dramatic, but Solskjaer knows what it takes as a player and if his managerial nouse is anywhere near his footballing ability, then the United heirarchy can't go far wrong. Sir Alex has always said that he will keep on managing as long as his health allows him. Ferguson came extremely close to retiring in 2002 but back-tracked on his decision and still leads the team 10 years later. In that time he has guided his team to a 19th domestic league title, overtaking arch rival Liverpool's record of 18 titles. Along with a Champions League trophy in 2008, Ferguson is currently overseeing the most successful period in Manchester United's history. Although no-one knows who will succeed Sir Alex, one thing we can be sure about is that there will never be another manager like him. Love him or loathe him, Ferguson has carved his name into footballing history and will be missed by many when he does call time on his reign - whenever that may be.
