NFL Draft 2020: 13 Biggest Picks You NEED To Know
6. Safety - Xavier McKinney
Round 2: Pick 4
Xavier McKinney was graded as the top safety in the draft and a possible first round pick. When teams such as Dallas, Las Vegas, New England and San Francisco opted to skip over him, it was apparent that McKinney would slip out of the first night. He wouldn't have to wait long into the second day as the New York Giants opted to choose him with the fourth pick.
McKinney has the opportunity to step into a starting role week 1 for a youthful team on the rise. With quarterback Daniel Jones in only his second year and a brand new coaching staff led by Joe Judge, the Giants aren't expected to be a major threat to the NFC. McKinney will be in good hands as both Judge and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham come from New England where they worked with Probowlers like Brandon Meriweather and Devin McCourty.
Partnered with McKinney at strong safety is former first round pick Jabrill Peppers. Peppers had been leading the Giants in tackles and forced fumbles before landing on IR last season. The duo should form one of the better young defensive backfields in the league.
