Norwich City Transfers: 5 Reasons Wes Hoolahan Should Be Allowed To Leave

3. He Doesn't Necessarily Fit Into The Way Norwich Wishes To Play

There are players in football that are often referred to as luxuries. It€™s a commentator€™s cliché, but they often say luxury players have no place in a relegation fight. Now, it€™s a matter of some debate on whether Norwich are in a relegation fight or not, given the tightness of the bottom half of the league it€™s a little bit difficult to tell. I have already mentioned in the previous point that Hughton doesn€™t see Hoolahan as a regular in his side, and one of the reasons behind that is the difficulty of fitting him into the team. Anyone that has followed his career knows that playing him on the wing doesn€™t really work, and arguably the likes of Anthony Pilkington, Robert Snodgrass and Nathan Redmond are better options anyway. In my opinion, the only way of getting the best out of the player is to utilize him behind a lone striker €“ but that€™s not a system that a lot of fans are keen on. The fact of the matter is that with a fully fit squad, Hoolahan would probably be considered an impact sub at best €“ and you can certainly understand why he wants a bit better than that at 31 years old.
