Patrick Vieira Out Of Newcastle Running With Steve McClaren Expected To Be Appointed

It looks like it could be the "Wally with the Brolly" after all...

Patrick Vieira is no longer under consideration for the head coach role at Newcastle United after it became clear that the Magpies would not allow him full control over transfers and the team. Instead Steve McClaren has once again re-emerged as the frontrunner - with John Carver also reportedly expected to be interviewed for the position within the next 48 hours. The potential appointment of Vieira was one Newcastle fans had been excited for and they were hoping that the Frenchman's arrival would prove Mike Ashley's promises of a better tomorrow were to be met.
However, Vieira is not now among the leading candidates, with it appearing to be a procession towards former Derby County boss McClaren's appointment. McClaren has twice rebuffed Newcastle's advances before - including in January after Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace and with three games to go in the Magpies' season - yet chief scout Graham Carr appears to remain convinced he is the man to take the club forward. Should Carver fail to impress within the next two days, then McClaren could even be unveiled by the weekend - despite the fact he was sacked by Derby last week and replaced by former Real Madrid assistant boss Paul Clement.
Vieira meanwhile could now remain at Manchester City, or take up a director of football role at Turkish club Fenerbahce. Interestingly, Vieira has received 88% of the vote in a whatculture.com/nufc poll into who should be the next Magpies head coach out of himself and McClaren, yet Newcastle seem determined to appoint the latter.
